Valentines day is something that never seems to be a holiday of danger. The thought of opening an e-card from someone on valentines day never before posed a threat. However, be warned of a new threat! While that day never was threatened, your email inbox’s may be the targets of a new virus. Some call it the Valentine Bug, but the FBI calls it the “Storm Worm Virus.” An e-card that seems like a normal e-card that someone would send to you on valentines day may contain a “trojan horse” virus that will eventually hijack your computer. This virus is not new because it has been seen in various other holidays before, now making Valentines day its next target. The virus infects itself as a botnet, meaning that it can communicate with other computers on the internet and send your computer spam, other viruses, and other junk. Not to be alarmed though because here are some tips on how to protect yourself in these times of worm perils.
1. Never open any email that you dont know the sender of.
2. Do not click on any links (in the email *IF you open it*) that look suspicious.
3. Always have an anti-virus program running on your computer. (If you are in need of a free program, use AVG Free at download.com)
4. Finally…NEVER download .exe (executable programs) files.
