It has been said over and over again that the more popular you are, the more money you will be making. Well, that is true, but sometimes it just doesnt work out for people. Most webmasters think that by advertising like crazy, making banners, paying for traffic, and by paying for directory submissions, they are doing their website good. However, those are all big mistakes. The reason is that while all those activities may increase hits to your site, the sudden influx of readers will soon realize that your site is nothing more than a revenue maker, rather than a blog/website for the people.
There are many things you can do to increase the popularity of your site. BUT, you must do them algorithmically, and in moderation. Just by thinking you will increase your website popularity and revenue will only put you at the starting line. Most webmasters are still there, but only a few have actually crossed the line and started the race.
Now, im no Search Engine Optimization (SEO) expert, but i sure know what to do and what not to do. Most webmasters do the latter. The ones that do the former, end up like big fish in the business like John Chow and Tyler Cruz. But what is the secret to their success? Sadly, i shall never know until i experience it. Blog/Website owners that wish their blogs to be like J. Chow’s in their debut days, will have to face reality. Blogs like John Chow and Tyler Cruz take time to develop and gain readership. Give your blog a couple of months before you start advertising on other websites (paying for advertising). If you start immediately, its no use, because your site:
1. May not have a PR
2. Have under 100 Visitors/ Month
3. Have no Content!
If your site meets any of those, even one of the, then your are out of luck, at least for another few months. However, don’t give up hopes yet. There are things you can do to improve your site.
First, you must write almost everyday. If you cannot make a commitment to write everyday, then make a commitment to write every other day. Anything that will increase the content size of your blog in the first few weeks or months will have a huge impact in future quarters.
Second, you must tell people about your site. Don’t just sit in front of your computer and look for ways to make money on your site. Explore your options. Often, there are sites that offer to introduce your blog to the community.
Third, you must get quality back links. Back links are links that directly link to your site from other sites of reputation. If you look for other sites with the same PR (Google’s ranking) as you, millions of sites will pop up. Just contact the administrators of those sites and make some deals with them, like reciprocal links. They put your links on their site, you put their links on your site and vice versa. Its as simple as that.
